Clean Air Reports

• The National Association of Local Government Environmental Professionals (NALGEP) launched the Clean Air Partnership Project in 1999 to identify promising approaches to cleaner air at the local level and to promote federal and state policies and programs that can foster those approaches. The report, Profiles of Local Clean Air Innovation, presents the perspectives of local government officials who work every day to combat air pollution and create innovative programs to improve air quality.
  
• The National Governors Association Center for Best Practices published a report on State Innovations to Reduce Vehicle Emissions, including inspection and maintenance programs, as well as programs to slow the growth in vehicle miles traveled, mitigate congestion and encourage the purchase of alternative fuel vehicles.

Clean Air Partnerships

• The Ozone Action Partnership for Northeast Tennessee and Southwest Virginia is offering businesses and industries in the region an opportunity to become an "Ozone Action Partner." By pledging to take voluntary actions to reduce emissions of nitrogen oxides during the ozone season, the Partnership will recognize you as an Ozone Action Partner.
  
• The Clean Air Campaign in the Atlanta region is a not-for-profit organization that works to reduce traffic congestion and improve air quality through a variety of voluntary programs and services, including free employer assistance, public information and children's education. The Clean Air Campaign serves as a clearinghouse for a multitude of organizations that have programs in place to address traffic congestion and air pollution.
  
• The Association of Central Oklahoma Governments’ clean Air Committee is a public/private air quality partnership. Their web site provides information on air quality in that region and helpful tips on reducing air pollution.
  

Federal Information and Assistance

• It All Adds Up to Cleaner Air is a public education and partnership-building initiative of U.S. DOT's Federal Highway Administration and Federal Transit Administration, and the EPA's Office of Transportation and Air Quality. It is designed to inform the public about the connection between their transportation choices, traffic congestion and air pollution.
  
• EPA’s Transportation and Air Quality Center (TRAQ) provides state and local air quality regulators and transportation planners with access to critical information regarding transportation and mobile source incentive-based programs and tools, partnership opportunities, grant funding sources, useful contact names, and technical assistance.

Commuter Choice Sites

• A new business/government partnership, the Commuter Choice Leadership Initiative is dramatically improving the way people get to and from work. EPA and DOT assist participating Commuter Choice^® Employers by offering technical assistance, public recognition and promotion, training, web-based tools and forums for information exchange.
  
• Funded by the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), U.S. Department of Transportation, and Transportation Demand Management Institute (TDMI), the CommuterChoice.com website provides an open service to employers, commuters, and Commuter Choice service providers throughout the United States. Commuter Choice can also include communities working with residents, schools working with students, and even developers working with future tenants to provide and promote choices for travelers.

Alternative Fuels and Vehicles

• The U.S. Department of Energy’s Alternative Fuels Data Center is a one-stop shop for all your alternative fuel and vehicle information needs. This site has more than 3,000 documents in its database, an interactive fuel station mapping system, listings of available alternative fuel vehicles, links to related Web sites, and much more.
  
• The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency promotes and expands the use of environmentally beneficial alternative fuels and vehicles by providing the states with tools, such as benefits models, State Implementation Plan Credits, and the Clean Fuels Fleet program. EPA also coordinates with the Department of Energy and Department of Transportation so that their Energy Policy Act and Transportation Equity Act of the 21^st Century programs promote alternative fuels and vehicles having the greatest environmental gains.

• The National Alternative Fuels Training Consortium strives to improve air quality and decrease the dependence on foreign oil by promoting, supporting, and expanding the use of alternative fuel vehicles. We develop and deliver standard, competency based training for automotive trainers, technicians, and others in the alternative fuel vehicle field, and educate the consumer about alternative fuel vehicles.
  
• The National Conference of State Legislatures maintains an alternative fuels web site that includes many links to other alternative fuel and alternative fuel vehicle web sites and publications.

• The East Tennessee Clean Fuels Coalition (ETCFC) works to reduce dependence on foreign oil and improve regional air quality and sustainability. The ETCFC is a participant in the U.S. Department of Energy’s national Clean Cities program, which works toward these goals by furthering the use of alternatives to gasoline and diesel in the transportation sector.

• ATMOS - Arkansas-Tennessee-Mississippi Ozone Study On-going modeling effort begun in 2000 designed to provide technical information relative to attainment of the 8-hour ozone standard across this multi-jurisdictional area. Tennessee's ozone non-attainment will be resolved through this modeling process.
