  • Methamphetamine Cleanup Guidance Update Meetings

    July 21, 2006 (Nashville) and July 27, 2006 (Knoxville).

    There will be two meetings to discuss the updated cleanup guidance for properties afflected by the illicit manufacture of methamphetamine. These meeting will be an opportunity to ask questions and comment upon the latest version of the cleanup guidance. Other topics to be discussed are requirements for recertification as a clandestine methamphetamine lab (CML) cleanup contractor or CML Hygienist, problems encoutered in the field, etc.

    The meeting in Nashville July 21, 2006 will be held in the L&C Tower 17th Floor Conference Room at 12:30 pm CDT. The L&C Tower is at the south-west corner 4th Ave. and Church Street. Parking is available at One Nashville Place Across 4th Ave. from the L&C Annex and at the Suntrust Garage which is next door to the L&C Annex. Parking will not be validated.

    The meeting in Knoxville will be held in the main conference room of the new Knoxville Environmental Field Office at 3711 Middlebrook Pike on July 27, 2006 at 12:30 pm EDT. The Knoxville Environmental Field Office will be in this new location by July 2006. It is on the north side of Middlebrook Pike between the I-640 overpass and Liberty Street.

    Attention all CIHs, CML-Hs, and CML Cleanup Contractors: TDEC is holding a meeting/training session on July 18, 2005 at the L&C Tower, 17th floor conference room, 1:00 PM CDT July 18, 2005. There is no charge for attendance to this meeting/training session. The purpose of this meeting is discuss the latest changes to the CML Quarantine Law, as a result of the legislation enacted since your training classes. In addition, we will be discussing changes and updates to our cleanup guidance. This will include new sample acquisition methodologies and a new approach to cleanup procedures that will minimize the potential for cross / re-contamination of already cleaned areas.

    This training session is important to your current knowledge and professional development in the cleanup of CML. We strongly recommend your attendance to this meeting/training session. Please email Brad Parman ([email protected]) your RSVP.

    The L&C Tower is located at the corner of Church Street and 4th Avenue in Nashville. Parking is available at One Nashville Place across the street from the L&C on 4th Ave. Parking is also available at the Suntrust Garage next door to the L&C Annex Building, also on 4th Avenue. Because of continuing construction projects and irregular road closures in the area, we recommend obtaining a map of downtown Nashville. Typical "turn here turn there" directions may not be sufficient.

    Following swift passage by the Tennessee General Assembly, Governor Phil Bredesen signed into law comprehensive legislation to fight methamphetamine manufacturing and abuse in Tennessee. Among other things, SB2318/HB2334 moves behind pharmacy counters certain cold and sinus products containing pseudoephedrine.

    Meeting announcement: The Tennessee Department of Environment and Conservation is hosting an open meeting to review and evaluate the current Methamphetamine Cleanup Guidance. All interested parties are encouraged to attend and provide comments and observations on its use, applicability, and implementability on properties impacted by clandestine methamphetamine labs.     GOVERNOR’S METH TASK FORCE DELIVERS FINAL REPORT NASHVILLE — The Governor’s Task Force on Methamphetamine Abuse today delivered its final report outlining a series of recommendations to serve as the basis for Governor Phil Bredesen’s strategy to address the methamphetamine epidemic in Tennessee.

    In all, the Task Force delivered more than 30 recommendations falling under seven fundamental “cornerstones” for an effective strategy to attack meth abuse.
