One of the best ways to learn about environmental issues is to participate in a special event.  TDEC celebrates in special ways several times each year.

Register Now for the 2008 Empowering P2 Conference, September 18 and 19, at Montgomery Bell State Park

Earth Day has been celebrated each year since 1970.   Tennessee celebrated our planet in many different ways in many different parts of the State.  For more information visit the international web site at EarthDay.net .

The Great American Cleanup takes place every year from mid-March to mid-May.   Volunteers from more than 10,000 communities pick up litter, plant flowers, hold clothing drives, and clean up dump sites.  For more information on how you can volunteer in your community please contact Keep America Beautiful

As part of the 2007 Tennessee Great American Cleanup, the Office of Environmental Assistance within the Tennessee Department of Environment and Conservation  held it's 7th Annual Clothing Drive on May 9th, 10th, 16th & 17th in which 4,280 pounds of clothes were collected over a period of 4 days.  The clothing drive was made available to all employees of the State of Tennessee, Metro Government, and the general public.  The clothing was donated to Mending Hearts, a Community Resource Agency & Goodwill Industries.  As a sign of appreciation participants received goodie bags which contained environmental information along with a copy of the latest Conservationalist Magazine.

Clean Air Month 2007 Comes to a Close with the Clean Air Fair!

More than fifteen organizations gathered at Bicentennial Mall delivering a universal message to protect the environment and preserve air quality. Hundreds of state employees, local residents, and tourists visited booths from air quality experts, pollution control agencies, Regional Transportation Authority, Metro Transportation Authority, Allied Waste, Bridgestone/ Firestone, Pull-A-Part and other organizations to learn about their impact on air quality in Tennessee.

Special thanks go to event organizers and participants, as well as the Bicentennial Mall staff for helping to make the Fair a success. Congratulations to those participants who were winners in the contests and giveaways. The Department of Environment and Conservation hopes this will become an anticipated annual event in a continuing endeavor to preserve and improve air quality in Tennessee.
