About TDEC

Welcome to the Tennessee Department of Environment and Conservation’s Web site.
Our department was created to protect and improve the quality of our state’s land, air, water and recreation resources.  We administer a variety of programs to safeguard human health and the environment while ensuring our natural resources meet healthful, regulatory standards.  We also manage 53 State Parks and 79 State Natural Areas for the benefit of Tennessee and its citizens.
I am proud of the difference that Environment and Conservation makes for Tennessee every day.  Whether you are hiking along our many trails or enjoying the state’s abundant, clean waters,
I trust you can see this positive impact too.

The Tennessee Department of Environment and Conservation does not discriminate on the basis of race, color, national origin, age, sex or disability and is fully committed to nondiscriminatory practices within the scope of its responsibilities.

    Department Feature

May is Clean Air Month, and all citizens are encouraged to take steps to improve air quality in Tennessee. The department partners with local media outlets, local air programs and regional clean air partnerships to provide an Air Quality Alert System that informs residents when air quality becomes unhealthy for sensitive groups. Timely information and simple clean air solutions can make a positive difference in the air we breathe.
