Reuse means to avoid making trash by finding another benefit from a particular material or item. We reuse many things everyday including the air we breathe, the water we drink, the car we drive, and the kitchen dishes we wash. Reuse avoids the harvest of new raw materials and the disposal of old materials. Reuse is another way to practice pollution prevention.
Consider some of these ways you can reuse:
- Purchase durable goods that will last a long time
- Consider repair rather than replacement
- Donate used, quality items to charity
- Reuse your favorite coffee cup each day
- Turn would-be trash into supplies for arts and crafts projects
- Use refillable pens, pencils, notebooks, and other office supplies
- Refill your water bottles
- Save packaging peanuts for your next outgoing box
